A Rawlins resident has proposed converting the city’s unused hockey rink into an RC car track.

During the citizens’ participation portion of the June 16th Rawlins City Council meeting, interim Carbon County Library System Director Jenita Calton presented a plan for an alternative use of the city’s ice‑hockey rink, located near the Rawlins Middle School. Calton said the facility seems to have sat idle for many years, and instead of leaving it that way, she suggested building a play area for remote‑controlled vehicle hobbyists.

Calton provided the City Council with a picture of an RC course in a Tbilisi, Georgia mall. She said the setup appears to contain several hand‑made obstacles for the remote‑controlled vehicles to navigate. With many RC enthusiasts in town, Calton said the obstacle course would likely see more use than the hockey rink.

Vice Mayor Darril Garner called Calton’s plan “a wonderful idea.”

Under the Wyoming Public Meetings Act, the Rawlins City Council cannot act on or deliberate items that are not listed on the published agenda, including comments offered during the citizens’ participation portion of its meetings.
