RV parking on streets in Rawlins continues to be a political hot potato no one can hold.

The latest attempt to limit campers, boats and other popular rigs from crowding narrow streets during winter months died on a 5-2 vote in city council last month.

An alternative proposal to make some streets one-way only hit a dead end because of unintended consequences. Now another alternative – putting the matter to a vote of the people — also is turning out to be problematic.

The city attorney says state law requires council to pass an ordinance before voters have a chance to repeal it. Cali O’Hare explains.
