The public is invited to participate in the Rawlins Fire Department’s annual fundraiser event.
Tomorrow, May 30th, the Rawlins Fire Department is hosting a fundraiser 5K and open house. Fire Chief Allen Robinson explained that the day will start with a free pancake breakfast. Afterwards, the racers will take to the streets on a newly designed course beginning at Fire Station One near the Wyoming Frontier Prison.
In previous years, the 5K began at Fire Station Two, located on the south side of the city. Chief Robinson said this year’s course will take runners on a loop from Fire Station One, past the Frontier Prison, around the Rawlins Family Recreation Center, and back to the start.
The course will be broken into several stations, each containing firefighting‑related obstacles for the runners to complete. Chief Robinson said he wasn’t part of the planning process but expects that each station will have similar obstacles as previous 5K races.
During the race, Fire Station One will host an open house. Chief Robinson invited the public to stop by the station and cheer on their favorite runners.
While the pancake breakfast and open house are free, the 5K requires a $25 entry fee. Online registration has closed, but Chief Robinson said runners may still sign up in person.
Chief Robinson said money raised during the 5K will be split between the Rawlins Volunteer Fire Department and nonprofit organizations within the city.
The Rawlins Fire Department’s annual 5K fundraiser is tomorrow, May 30th at Fire Station One, located at 320 West Walnut Street. The free pancake breakfast starts at 8 a.m. and the race will begin at 9. All runners must register for the event and pay a $25 entry fee. Leashed pets are welcome.
