Two Rawlins water treatment operators were honored at a state-wide water quality conference.

Rawlins Water Treatment Operator Carly Brown and Water and Wastewater Supervisor Stevie Osborn were commended during the annual Wyoming Water Quality and Pollution Control Association awards ceremony in Casper.

Since 1970, the Wyoming Water Quality and Pollution Control Association has offered training opportunities to the state’s water and wastewater operators. Last month, the WWQ and PCA gathered water treatment operators from across the state for its yearly Excellence Awards.

During Tuesday’s Rawlins city council meeting, Public Works Director Cody Dill said Brown and Osborn were honored at the annual water treatment operators award ceremony.

Dill said Water Treatment Operator Brown has worked with the Water Quality Association for five years. The public works director said during last month’s conference, Brown was appointed vice president of the organization.

Dill said Water and Wastewater Supervisor Osborn was presented with the Dr. Robert L. Champlin award during October’s conference. The public works director said Osborn has been assisting a number of organizations that promote women in the water treatment fields. Dill also said Osborn has earned several certifications relevant to her Water and Wastewater Supervisor position.

According to the Wyoming Water Quality and Pollution Control Association website, Dr. Robert Champlin was a professor of civil engineering at the University of Wyoming and a founding member of the Water Quality Association.

Mayor Terry Weickum said he was proud of Brown and Osborn for their accomplishments. Osborn said she couldn’t have succeeded without support from the city.

Water Treatment Operator Brown was unable to attend Tuesday’s meeting due to illness.
