A section of Highway 789, south of I-80, will be closed today while power crews run new electrical lines.

In a news release issued yesterday, the Wyoming Department of Transportation stated that travelers on Wyoming Highway 789 may experience delays as crews with Rocky Mountain Power begin utility work. The road closures are expected to begin this morning and last into the afternoon, weather permitting.

WYDOT Senior Public Relations Specialist Andrea Staley said Highway 789, five miles south of Interstate 80, will be closed on five separate occasions throughout today. Staley said WYDOT crews will hold traffic while Rocky Mountain Power technicians fly power lines across the highway.

Staley is asking drivers to use caution while traveling in the construction zone. The WYDOT public information specialist said the road closures are expected to be brief, with work finished by this afternoon.

Staley said to be on the lookout for WYDOT flaggers while driving along Highway 789 this morning. Staley said the flaggers will close the road only when Rocky Mountain Power helicopters are crossing the highway.

The WYDOT press release says that the utility work is anticipated to be completed by this afternoon. All scheduling is subject to change, including due to inclement weather and material availability.
