In Saratoga, officials have offered a lease to the future owner of Platte Valley Pharmacy.

During the February 18th Saratoga Town Council meeting, Mayor Chuck Davis announced that Platte Valley Pharmacy owner Rod Waeckerlin is preparing to retire. Mayor Davis said Pole Mountain Pharmacy owner Brett Kvenild has agreed to purchase the business, but the town must approve a new lease agreement as it owns the South River Street building.

Mayor Davis said he considered transferring the existing lease to the new owner. However, Town Attorney Kylie Waldrip was unable to provide guidance, as she also represents Platte Valley Pharmacy and Rod Waeckerlin. Instead of amending the current lease, the mayor recommended drafting a new agreement.

Despite his recommendation, Mayor Davis said the final decision rests with the Town Council.

Afterward, the mayor asked Brett Kvenild to introduce himself. The Pole Mountain Pharmacy owner explained that he is prepared to take over the Saratoga dispensary in April with minimal changes to staff or day‑to‑day operations.

Kvenild asked the governing body to authorize the lease agreement so residents can continue receiving their medication without interruption. Mayor Davis said the town does not want to see Platte Valley Pharmacy close. Kvenild agreed, saying he has firsthand knowledge of how important the service is to the town.

Councilman Mike Cooley said the staff is the pharmacy’s greatest asset, a point Kvenild echoed.

The Saratoga Town Council voted to draft a new lease agreement, allowing the Pole Mountain Pharmacy owner to operate out of Platte Valley Pharmacy. Mayor Davis said the new lease will be similar to the existing agreement the town has with Rod Waeckerlin.
