Saratoga’s youth production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a hit over the weekend, said the group’s drama club coach.

Last weekend, at the Platte Valley Community Center, Saratoga’s Drama Club performed their version of Roald Dahl’s literary classic, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Drama Club Coach Marie Christen said the play was a success.

Christen said around 55 children participated in the play. As a reward for their hard work, Christen said she will throw the children a party and take them to see the newest entry in the Willy Wonka film universe.

Unfortunately, the new Willy Wonka movie, simply titled Wonka, has been delayed from its original March 17th release date to December 15th of this year.

Mayor Chuck Davis expressed his support for the performance and suggested the drama club be folded into the town’s recreation department. Mayor Davis said not every kid is interested in sports and having an alternative option would benefit the children of Saratoga. He said he would put the task on the town’s new recreation director when one is found.

With this year’s play finished, Christen can briefly rest before she must begin working on next year’s performance. She said the children will choose what show they take on.

Christen said the children are leaning toward performing a play based on the Narnia books by C.S. Lewis.
