The Saratoga Police Department is set to purchase body cameras and refurbished computers for its officers.
During Wednesday evening’s Saratoga Town Council meeting, Police Chief John Moore said the department’s in‑car computer terminals were too outdated to upgrade to the latest version of the Windows operating system. Chief Moore said brand‑new replacement units cost more than $3,000 each.
Instead of buying new, Chief Moore said he found two refurbished Getac S410G4 computers from Bob Johnson’s Computer Stuff in Delaware. The police chief asked for the authority to spend $1,946.58 to purchase the two computers.
Chief Moore clarified that the price was for both computers and the Saratoga Town Council voted to authorize the purchase.
Next, Chief Moore presented a $10,740.35 invoice from Axon, the town’s body camera, Taser, and dash cam supplier. The police chief said the amount covers a spare body camera and three additional software licenses for Evidence.com, Axon’s cloud‑based evidence management platform.
Chief Moore explained that the price has been divided over the remaining years of the town’s agreement with Axon. The initial payment will be $859.23, followed by an additional $2,470 spread over the lifetime of the contract.
Chief Moore requested to spend $859.23 this year on the body camera and software licenses. The remaining payments will be factored into his department’s annual budget. The governing body unanimously approved the Axon invoice as well.
