The Saratoga governing body is asking for letters of interest from residents to fill an empty council seat.

Following the snowmobiling death of Jacob Fluty, the Saratoga town council is missing one member. On February 9, 34-year-old Fluty died after being caught in an avalanche while recreating on a slope in the Sierra Madre Mountains. Fluty had served on the Saratoga town council since January of 2023.

During the March 19th Saratoga town council meeting, Mayor Chuck Davis said they should begin looking for a new council member. Mayor Davis said the town should open the council seat to letters of interest for four weeks. The council could swear in a new member during the May 7th regular meeting, said the mayor.

After the advertising period ends, Mayor Davis said the council will review any submitted letters of interest. If no qualified candidates are found, the mayor said the council will continue to search for a new member.

Until a new council member is found, the town will continue to do business with the three sitting members and the mayor.

Anyone interested in serving the remaining three years of Fluty’s term should submit a letter of interest addressed to Mayor Davis. All letters must be dropped off at the Saratoga town hall, located at 110 East Spring Avenue.
