In Saratoga, officials would like to install a new water slide at the town’s outdoor pool if the price is right.

Last month, the town council voted to hire Laramie-based contractor B and H Contracting to demolish the town’s crumbling wading pool. At the April 2nd Saratoga town council meeting, Public Works Director Emery Penner said B and H did a good job getting rid of and filling in the baby pool.

An attendee of the April 2nd meeting asked Penner if he was planning on installing a water slide at the pool. The public works director said he is open to the idea, but he doesn’t know where the slide would go.

Councilwoman Kathy Beck told Penner that the pool had a water slide in the past. However, the water pipes that fed the slide didn’t work properly. Councilwoman Beck asked the public works director if he investigated the water slide supply pipes while the baby pool was being demolished.

Penner said no, but the pool deck still requires more work, and the water pipe can be examined at that time.

The public works director said the Wyoming Department of Agriculture, who oversees all public pools in the state, must authorize any water slide the town decides to install. Penner said having the slide on the deep end of the pool will prevent young children from using it. Penner offered to get quotes for water slides if the council would like.

The town council said they would be in favor of installing a new water slide if the cost is acceptable.

Councilwoman Beck said the town had a replacement water slide ready to install a few years ago but had to send it back after the water supply issue was discovered. Beck said pool users enjoyed the slide and would like to see it return.

Councilwoman Beck asked Penner to provide the board with water slide quotes at a future council meeting.

Saratoga’s public pool is expected to open sometime around Memorial Day.
