The Saratoga town council continues their investigation into selling town owned property.

In August, the council voted to allow Mayor Chuck Davis to see what was involved in selling the town-owned lot on Myrtle Avenue. Mayor Davis said he was approached by multiple individuals asking to purchase the property. The mayor said he would consult with Town Attorney Kylie Waldrip to determine how to proceed with a potential land sale.

During the October 3rd Saratoga town council meeting, Public Works Director Emery Penner said Attorney Waldrip told him an appraisal of the property was needed before a sale could happen. After the appraisal is completed, Penner said the town can solicit a request for proposals, or RFPs.

After receiving the RFP’s from interested individuals, the town would be required to accept the highest bid.

Councilman Jerry Fluty asked Penner if it would make more financial sense to hold onto the property. Penner said while the real estate market does fluctuate, land typically increases in value. However, the public works director said the property isn’t guaranteed to be worth what the town would like to get for it.

The Saratoga town council hasn’t decided if they will allow the sale of the Myrtle Avenue, or any other town-owned, property. Penner and Attorney Waldrip will continue to investigate what is needed for a potential future sale.
