The Saratoga town council voted this week on how to spend the annual Wyoming Community Gas grant.
Each year, Wyoming Community Gas redistributes a portion of its profits back to participating municipalities. The money is to be used for community improvement or arts and culture projects.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the Saratoga town council voted to split this year’s Wyoming Community Gas grant between five recreation department programs.
At the November 7th Saratoga town council meeting, Mayor Chuck Davis said the council has been considering how to spend the $5,657.82 gas grant. Mayor Davis said he would like to evenly divide the sum into five parts, but asked for the other council members’ opinions.
Councilwoman Kathy Beck asked Mayor Davis which organizations should receive the grant. The mayor said he would give the money to several recreation programs.
Mayor Davis said he would like to have Recreation Supervisor Kim Hemenway handle the distribution of the gas grant funds. The mayor said splitting the $5,000 grant would allow each share to be spent without the need to convene the entire town council.
Mayor Davis specified some of the programs he would like to fund using the Wyoming Community Gas grant. The mayor said the remainder of the money could be spent on equipment for the recreation department.
Mayor Davis called for a vote to divide the $5,657.82 Wyoming Community Gas grant five ways. Councilman Jerry Fluty made the motion. Councilwoman Beck seconded and the motion passed.
Following the vote, Mayor Davis said the town will not receive the grant money until the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
Last year’s Wyoming Community Gas grant was evenly split between the Never Forget Park and Woods baseball fields.
