What sheriff’s deputies initially responded to as an accidental shooting has turned into a possible criminal case. A male suspect in the incident that happened on Saturday was taken in custody on a warrant from another case.

According to a release from the Carbon County Sheriff’s Department the shooting victim is an unidentified female. An emergency call was received a shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon for a woman with a gunshot wound. She was being transported by passenger vehicle on County Road 351, the Seminoe Road. Deputy Alex Bakken and Deputy Zach Burns intercepted the vehicle at Dugway, approximately seven miles north of Sinclair.

The deputies administered first aid at the scene until an ambulance crew arrived. The victim was then transported by air ambulance to Casper.

According to the official statement from the sheriff’s department, the shooting does not appear to be an accident. One male occupant of the vehicle was taken into custody on an unrelated warrant.

Neither the name of the victim nor the suspect was released. The investigation is ongoing, the release said.
