The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office is waiting on new trucks to patrol the area’s roadways—paved and unpaved.
The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office has purchased six new four by four trucks. Sheriff Alex Bakken said he has received two of the vehicles already. Sheriff Bakken said supply chain issues have delayed the parts needed to prepare the trucks for duty.
Sheriff Bakken said the trucks come from an assortment of manufacturers. The sheriff said COVID related shortages meant brand loyalty wasn’t a factor in the purchase.
The trucks will be emblazoned with the sheriff’s newly redesigned logo. Sheriff Bakken explained the reason behind the revised emblem.
The new logo features the word “sheriff” displayed prominently in brown letters with gold outlines. Carbon County is written in gold beneath. The design was voted on by members of the public. Sheriff Bakken said he enjoys having the ubiquitous Wyoming bucking horse and cowboy on his vehicle.
Sheriff Bakken said his department will still retain the old-style vehicles alongside the new trucks. The sheriff said his deputies put a lot of wear and tear on their vehicles.
The sheriff’s office has also received a new ATV. Sheriff Bakken said his deputies will use the quad to patrol hard to reach areas of the county. The sheriff specifically mentioned the ATV will be used to deter people from trespassing on private property at the Seminoe Sand Dunes.
Sheriff Bakken said he is grateful for the support of the county commissioners and the public for funding the purchase. He said the new vehicles will help his deputies serve and protect the community better.
