Danny Beckle, the new director of South Central Wyoming EMS, introduced himself to the Saratoga Town Council during Wednesday evening’s meeting. There, the town’s SCWEMS representative, Steve Martin, presented Beckle to the governing body and said the new SCWEMS director is working to understand how the organization runs.

Danny Beckle has stepped into the role previously held by Stayton Mosbey, who announced his resignation last year. Despite his intention to step down, Mosbey remained with SCWEMS well into this year to help find a new director.

At Wednesday’s Saratoga Town Council meeting, Steve Martin asked Beckle to outline his background. The new SCWEMS director explained that he has extensive experience in emergency medicine and added that changes to the character of northeast Colorado prompted his desire to move out of the state.

In addition, Beckle said his grandfather owned property in Encampment, and he spent many summers in the Platte Valley, where his father was one of Saratoga’s first municipal‑pool lifeguards. Beckle said he is selling his house in Greeley, Coloardo, and plans to build a new home in Saratoga, where he intends to retire.

The new SCWEMS director said he is still becoming familiar with the position and does not intend to make any operational changes except those related to staff protection or clinical care.

Beckle said he promised the SCWEMS Joint Powers Board he would not make any operational changes for at least 45 days. As he becomes more acquainted with the organization, Beckle said he will learn what policies work and what need to be revised, adding that he will always seek input from the Board and his staff.

As the SCWEMS director, Beckle said he will focus on hiring new staff, recruiting additional volunteers, and applying for grant opportunities. He criticized Saratoga’s lack of reliable radio service and said he will work with Saratoga Police Chief John Moore to secure grants to improve the town’s communications network.

Beckle said that with his partial military background, he understands that “without communication, nothing works.” Mayor Chuck Davis explained that the town is taking steps to improve its communications network. Beckle said SCWEMS would like to be part of the solution, adding that working together with other first responders will increase the likelihood of securing grants for those needed upgrades.

Beckle said he is always available for questions and invited the Town Council to reach out at any time. Mayor Chuck Davis offered the same level of accessibility to the new SCWEMS director.
