Users of Carbon County’s online payment portal will receive reduced fees if they choose to pay with an electronic check.

During yesterday’s Board of Carbon County Commissioners meeting, County Treasurer Lindsey West said online property tax and vehicle registration payments can only be made using a credit card. Treasurer West said online payments incur a mandatory 2.55% processing fee. The county treasurer acknowledged that the fee is high.

Treasurer West said the previous board of county commissioners approved the usage of electronic check payments, known as e-check. However, the county treasurer said the system was never implemented.

Treasurer West said she has begun implementing the e-check payment system. Online payments made using an electronic check will incur a reduced processing fee.

Treasurer West said the e-check system should go live by the end of this week.
