Two juvenile suspects are in custody after a credible threat to the Rawlins High School. On Tuesday morning, January 30th, Sheriff Alex Bakken said the FBI notified his department about a potential threat to Rawlins Victory High School. Sheriff Bakken said deputies and Rawlins police officers responded to a home on High Street.
Sheriff Bakken said the Federal Bureau of Investigation informed his department that the threat was regarding a plot to kill students and staff in the high school.
Sheriff Bakken said during the execution of the search warrant, a single juvenile was taken into custody. The sheriff said an additional person of interest also has been implicated in the threat.
Sheriff Bakken said agents from the FBI and Wyoming DCI are working the investigation. The sheriff said his department has implemented measures to ensure the safety of students across Carbon County.
Sheriff Bakken thanked his fellow law enforcement officers for stopping the potential mass-murder event at the Rawlins High School. The sheriff said school resource officers played an important part in preventing the tragedy.
Sheriff Bakken said unfortunately, school shootings appear to be happening more often. The sheriff said school resource officers are the key to stopping these types of threats from being carried out.
Sheriff Bakken said law enforcement takes all school threats seriously. The sheriff said he thinks the perpetrators of this most recent threat would have carried out their plot.
Because the suspects are juveniles, their names are being withheld by law enforcement.
