In Saratoga, Tyler Pickett Memorial Park and the Little League fields will be the beneficiaries of this year’s distribution from Wyoming Community Gas grant program. Wyoming Community Gas is not-for-profit consortium of municipalities. The organization has been around since 1996. Each year, WCG distributes earnings to member communities for public projects.
This year’s distribution to Saratoga totals $5,255. Mayor Creed James teed-up the issue for council. Mayor James, who also serves as treasurer of the Platte Valley Little League board, said the choice came down to the baseball fields for kids or the park memorializing a fallen local soldier.
Mayor James left the decision to the pleasure of council. At its previous meeting on August 3rd, council members discussed splitting the donation equally between the two entities. No motion was made, though, with council wanting more input from the Little League. At Tuesday’s meeting Councilman Jon Nelson moved forward with the idea of dividing the funding
The motion passed unanimously. Councilman Ben Spaulding, who joined the meeting by phone, serves on both the Little League Board and the steering committee for Tyler Pickett Park. Each group will receive about $2,628 in WCG funding.
