Volunteers are needed to revive the Medicine Bow Rodeo Arena.

The Medicine Bow Rodeo Arena has sat dormant for over 20 years. Wishing to bring western sports back to her town, Mayor Lucy Schofield is trying to revive the neglected arena. Mayor Schofield said local ranchers have already started repairs, but the rodeo grounds still need a lot of work.

Mayor Schofield said the arena used to have running water, but the lines were disconnected long ago. The Medicine Bow Mayor said the town will inspect the pipes for cracks and leaks to ensure they are still able to bring water to the rodeo grounds.

Mayor Schofield said the arena is also infested with prairie dogs. The rodents will need to be removed before events can take place. A horse can easily break a leg by stepping into a prairie dog hole.

Mayor Schofield said she isn’t sure when the arena will begin hosting events again. The Medicine Bow Mayor said she would like the rodeo grounds to be ready by the time the Wyoming Rodeo Association comes to our area in early July.

However, Mayor Schofield is realistic about the amount of work the arena needs. She said the rodeo grounds may not be ready for rough-stock events right away. The Medicine Bow Mayor said she would like to, at least, host ranch rodeos. Mayor Schofield described some of the events in the amateur competitions.

Medicine Bow councilwoman Sharon Kahl said they already have some of the supplies necessary to revitalize the rodeo arena. Councilwoman Kahl said the town needs as many volunteers as possible to quickly complete repairs.

The Medicine Bow Rodeo Arena cleanup is tentatively scheduled for June 2nd, from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Mayor Schofield said that date may change depending on when volunteers able available. The Medicine Bow mayor said to contact the town hall at 379-2225 to volunteer.
