Wyoming Senator John Barrasso endorsed Donald Trump for president this week. In making the announcement on Tuesday, Barrasso became the highest-ranking member of Senate Republican leadership to endorse Trump who is seeking to retake the White House in November.
Barrasso is the third-highest ranking Republican in the Senate. He joins Senator Steve Daines of Montana as the only members of elected Senate leadership to endorse Trump. Daines, who as chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, leads the candidate recruitment and campaign arm.
Barrasso made the announcement Tuesday night on Sean Hannity’s prime time public affairs show on Fox News.
Trump responded to Barrasso’s announcement on his Truth social media platform, saying, “Thank you to the GREAT Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming for such a powerful endorsement.”
While other senate leaders have held back from endorsing Trump yet, the five highest ranking members of House Republican leadership have publicly endorsed the former president for this year’s White House race.
