Wyoming Highway Patrol did not win the American Association of State Troopers’ Best Looking Cruiser Contest.
Every year since 2014, the American Association of State Troopers has held the Best Looking Cruiser Contest. The national competition asks the public to vote for their state’s police car design, and the cruiser with the most votes is featured on the cover of the following year’s American Association of State Troopers calendar. Proceeds from the calendar sales support the American Association of State Troopers Foundation, which provides educational scholarships to the children of police officers.
Forty‑eight of the 50 states submitted their cruiser designs for the competition. Hawaii did not participate because it does not have a state police or highway patrol, as law enforcement is handled by county police departments. Illinois simply chose not to submit an entry this year. The winner of the contest is determined entirely by popular vote.
In early July, Wyoming Highway Patrol was in 42nd place with 765 votes. At the time, Michigan lead with more than 17,000 votes, followed by Georgia with over 13,000 entries cast.
By the time voting closed on July 10th, Wyoming had dropped to 44th place. Of the 360,433 total votes cast in the nationwide competition, 1,101 were for the Cowboy State’s dark‑colored Chevy Silverado pickup with Wyoming Highway Patrol’s logo on the side.
Wyoming’s design beat out South Dakota, Delaware, North Dakota, and Oregon, which finished with just 185 votes.
Florida Highway Patrol was the overall winner, with 52,249 votes, edging out Michigan and Georgia as the competition closed. The victory marked the fourth consecutive year Florida won the national contest, making it the only state law enforcement agency to do so in the event’s 12-year history.
