Snow and very windy conditions persisted across much of southeast Wyoming on Monday. The result yesterday was crashes and travel delays from Arlington, here in Carbon County, eastward to Cheyenne.
By the evening Monday, I-80 was closed in both directions between Laramie and Rawlins because of crashes and unsafe travel conditions.
Meanwhile, high winds caused I-25 between Cheyenne and the Colorado state line to close because of blow-overs involving big rigs.
Winds were reportedly gusting in excess of 60 miles per hour beginning Monday morning along stretches of both interstates.
The extreme blow-over risk on I-25 extended north from the state line to Douglas Monday. One wind gust in Cheyenne reportedly was clocked at 77 miles per hour before noon yesterday. At Halleck Ridge and Arlington East in Carbon County, winds speeds were clocking at 70 miles per hour around 4 p.m. on Monday. The Wagonhound Rest Area was reportedly full at the time.
By 5 p.m., I-80 was closed between Rawlins and Laramie in both directions because of crashes.
