The Rockies opened the 2024 regular season over the weekend. Colorado dropped the first two games to Arizona on Thursday and Friday. The Rockies won on Saturday, but lost the closer on Sunday 1-5.

On to Chicago, where the Cubs won their home opener on Monday, shutting out Colorado 0-5.

Last night in the Windy City, Kyle Freeland was back on the mound for Colorado in a rough outing he’d probably like to forget. Chicago – in three and one-third innings, gave up nine hits and seven earned runs as the Rockies dropped game two 12-2.

Speaking to reporters after the game, skipper Bud Black said you never know what’s going to happen coming out of spring training.

The 1-and-5 start is the worst start in Rockies history. Colorado has been outscored 49-16 in the first six games. Colorado wraps up the set with Chicago today and then returns to Denver for the home opener.
