In sports, the mantra on the Wyoming Cowboy basketball team was simple. “You’ve got to win the home games.” The Cowboys have a big conference matchup tomorrow against Nevada.
The Cowboys beat Fresno State last Saturday with a buzzer beater to improve to 2-and-2 in conference play. Nevada heads to Laramie tomorrow with the identical conference record. The Wolf Pack fell on the road to conference co-leader San Diego State on Wednesday. The score was 71-59.
The Wolf Pack leads the Mountain West in scoring defense, allowing only 63.7 points per game, which ranks No. 21 in the nation. Nevada also takes care of the basketball with only 9.4 turnovers per game for first in MW and No. 14 in the nation.
Nevada’s leading scorers are Jarrod Lucas and Kenan Blackshear who are both averaging over 16 points per game this season. They rank sixth and seventh in Mountain West scoring this season.
Wyoming Associate Head Coach Ken DeWeese broke down the Nevada players this week as he coaches up the Cowboys.
The Cowboys hold a 14-8 record against Nevada in a series dating back to December 1999. Wyoming has won the last six games going back to the 2020 season.
UW has a had a week to prepare for tomorrow’s matchup. Tip is set for 5:30 Saturday—the nightcap to a double header in the Arena Auditorium.
