In sports, the Wyoming Cowboys are coming off, what Head Football Coach said Monday, their best performance of the year. Wyoming defeated the New Mexico Lobos 35-26 in a game where the Cowboys started sluggishly but found their groove and dominated the Lobos through the second half.

Coach Bohl broke down Saturday’s win on Monday, saying his offensive staff came up with a great game plan.

Despite the plusses and minuses, Coach Bohl said it was great to come up with a win in the conference opener.

The offense was firing on high octane in a crowd-pleasing performance. Andrew Peasley passed for 194 yards, including a 66-yard touchdown to Ayir Asante. Harrison Waylee rushed for 191 yards, including a 46-yard touchdown.

On special teams, DeVonne Harris blocked an extra point, which was returned by Jakorey Hawkins for a 2-point conversion. The man with the magic foot, John Hoyland added four field goals.

The defense started and finished sluggishly, something Wyoming can’t afford this week when undefeated Fresno State comes to the War for a Saturday night matchup under the lights.

Wyoming will be on a national prime-time stage this week. The Wyoming-Fresno State will air on Fox. The 25th-ranked Bulldogs come to Laramie riding a 14-game winning streak, the second-longest active run in the nation. Fox Sports will carry the game, creating a buzz inside the War.

The undefeated Bulldogs are off to their best start since opening 10-0 in 2013. Fresno State defeated Nevada 27-9 Saturday. Sophomore quarterback Mikey Keene connected with Jaelen Gill on two touchdown passes. Keene was 26 of 34 for 269 yards with two interceptions. Malik Sherod had 12 carries for 123 yards and a score.

Coach Bohl acknowledged that the prime-time television exposure is great for UW. He added that while the temptation of watching the Cowboys on television in a prime time matchup is strong, he added that there’s no place like the War this season.

Of course, if you’re not headed to Laramie, Bigfoot 99 will have the game right here in living color with play-by-play from two guys who know the Cowboys, Keith Kelly and Kevin McKinney. You can always synch the radio with the TV for the best of both worlds. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
