Wyoming is a 14-point favorite against New Mexico Saturday. The Las Vegas odds- makers must not be looking at the history between these two teams.

Wyoming is the only Mountain West team that Lobos Head Coach Danny Gonzales has a 2-1 winning record against in his fourth season.

Gonzales cites Cowboys head coach Craig Bohl as his professional mentor.

Bohl is a legend in the game, Gonzales said.

Bohl handpicked Gonzales to replace him on the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division I board of trustees.

In Saturday’s game against UW, Coach Gonzales will put the ball in the hands of quarterback Dylan Hopkins. Gonzales gave Hopkins all the credit for Saturday’s 34-31 overtime road win over UMass.

Hopkins entered the transfer portal in January after leading UAB to a 17-9 record while throwing for 4,740 yards and 31 touchdowns.

Coach Gonzales gave Hopkins credit for guiding the team to a win that in the past, he said, the Lobos likely would have lost.

The tuned-up New Mexico offense will square off against a Wyoming defense that contained the third-ranked Texas offense for three quarters earlier this month and held on for nail-biting wins over Texas Tech and Appalachian State in the Cowboys 3-1 start to the season.

Coach Bohl the Lobos team that will come into the War on Saturday is a different team from last year.

The 3-1 Cowboy kickoff Saturday at 2 p.m. in the homecoming game with the 2-2 Lobos looking to play spoiler. The pregame show will start at 12:30 here on Bigfoot 99.
