Coming up Friday, a high-noon showdown is set the two best 1A 6-man football teams in Wyoming. They’re both from Carbon County.

The 9-0 Rattlers reached the title game by edging Meeteetse with a gutsy come-from-behind 47-46 win in a home playoff game. Encampment would not be denied this year. After losing by one-point in the semi-final action last year, the Tigers punched earned their way onto Jonah with last Friday’s 56-36 win over Dubois.

We reached out to both coaches yesterday. We heard back from Jack Cobb, who talked about the season and the rivalry between LSRV and Encampment.

Talking to staff yesterday, both sides of Battle Pass are ready, and looking forward to this year’s edition of the rivalry. We asked Coach Cobb about what went into the success that the Rattlers enjoyed this year. He said a lot of it had to with the experience and leadership of the upperclassmen.

One of the seniors, Zander Risner, reached the end zone in last Friday’s playoff win. The Rattlers ran for 418 yards. Junior Hadley Meyers carried the ball 33 times for 246 yards. The Rattlers took the lead with five minutes left in the fourth quarter and buttoned up for the win.

Coach Cobb has had a simple message for his team this week. Have fun, enjoy the moment and play football. He coaches like he’s been there before, and he has.

And that job is play the kind of football that got them there. We’ll have more of our interview with Coach Cobb tomorrow. We hope to hear from Encampment Coach Kegan Wilford. We left messages so we hope to hear from the Tigers coach today.
