In Sports, the Wyoming Cowboy basketball team will play South Dakota State this evening in the opening round of the West Star Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational.

The two-day tournament takes place in El Paso, Texas. The competition looks tough.

The Cowboys head into today’s contest with a 6-4 overall record after falling to Big Sky favorite Weber State on Saturday by a score of 84-71.

This will be the sixth meeting between the Cowboys and the Jackrabbits. Their last matchup was in the Caymen Islands Classic in November of 2017. The Cowboys came away with a 77-65 victory.

The Jackrabbits are 6-5 overall after winning two straight games. Zeke Mayo, who led the Jacks with 25 points in the win over Wichita State on Dec. 9, is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 19.5 points per game.

The Cowboys are talented but they’re young. The Jackrabbits went 0-2 in their last multi-team tournament appearance, but Wyoming head coach Jeff Linder took a measured approach in sizing up the game earlier this week.

Tip off is set for 5 pm at the Don Haskins Center. Bigfoot99 will air the game starting at 4:30 pm with the pre-game show.
