As Bigfoot 99 reported at the start of last week, snow/water equivalents in the North Platte River Basin were sitting at 85 percent. The recent rounds of precipitation have boosted snowpack levels. Yesterday, the NRCS reported mountain snowpack levels at either side of 95 percent of the 30-year mean.

While flooding from snowmelt does not appear to be a concern in the Platte Valley this year, Carbon County’s newest flood preparedness tool, the SandMaster 2020, is ready if needed.

Saratoga Public Works Director Jon Winter reported to town council last week that his department took delivery of the machine after a recent training session.

Cali O’Hare has more on the machine that makes easy work of filling sandbags and preparing them for deployment in flood-endangered areas.
