In a new development in an ongoing story, Hanna officials will need to pay the Carbon County Sheriff’s office to patrol their town.
Hanna hasn’t had a full-time law enforcement officer since former Town Marshal Ted Kranenberg joined the sheriff’s department in March. While officials search for a new marshal, they have asked the sheriff’s department to provide police coverage for the town. Sheriff Alex Bakken drafted an agreement between Hanna and his department and sent it to the town.
At Tuesday’s Board of Carbon County Commissioners Meeting, Sheriff Bakken said Hanna would be required to pay $55,000 a year for a sheriff’s deputy to spend at least 60 hours a month patrolling the town. Sheriff Bakken said the money would be used to pay for his department’s services.
Sheriff Bakken said he based the contract on the practices of other Wyoming counties and their law enforcement agencies. The sheriff said communities in Sublette County rely solely on their sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Bakken said the contract was still under review by both parties, the county and the town.
