Discover Carbon County has announced the winners of the 2023 Photo Contest.

Discover Carbon County, formerly Carbon County Visitor’s Council, has chosen Hanna resident Kyle Warren’s picture, titled Bobcat, as the winner of this year’s photo contest. Warren photographed a bobcat in the snow looking at the camera.

Discover Carbon County Chief Executive Officer Leslie Jefferson said the photo contest began in the early 2000’s. Jefferson said the competition was created as a bi-annual showcase of the beauty of Carbon County.

Beginning last winter, Discover Carbon County asked people to send in their photo contest entries. The pictures were to focus on the unique aspects of Carbon County. Jefferson said she received 43 entries this year.

On Wednesday, November 15th, Discover Carbon County announced the winners of the 2023 Photo Contest. Jefferson said Kyle Warren won $150 for his first-place entry.

The Discover Carbon County CEO said Emily Sedlacek’s picture of a verdant Elk Mountain took home second place and a $100 prize.

Rounding out the top three was Elizabeth Campbell’s sunset photograph of a Little Snake River Valley hay field. Campbell was awarded $50 for winning honorable mention.

Jefferson said the winning submissions were voted on by the Discover Carbon County board members.

Jefferson said the pictures are assigned a number upon submission. The Discover Carbon County CEO said the board did not know whose picture they were voting for.

The 2023 Photo Contest submissions and winners can be found on the Discover Carbon County Facebook page. Jefferson said she will begin requesting entries for the 2024 Photo Contest sometime in February.
