Two wolves were collared in North Park near Walden on Thursday where ranchers continue to be on guard.

Biologists with Colorado Parks and Wildlife conducted the operation to learn more about the pack that is suspected of preying sheep and cattle in the area.

The wolves were tracked with a helicopter and darted with a tranquilizer. One of the pair, gray male wolf 2101 was recaptured two years after he was first caught and tagged. His GPS collar had failed. The second is presumed to be one of the six black pups produced by 2101 and the female wolf 1084.

CPW Species Conservation Program Manager Eric Odell says both animals appear to be in good health.

The wolves in Jackson County migrated to Colorado from Wyoming and are not a result of wolf reintroduction efforts.
