Carbon County 4-H has announced their 2023 scholarship winners.

Every year, Carbon County 4-H provides members with scholarship money to further their education. Youth Development Leader Emily Haver announced this year’s winners.

Haver said the Carbon County 4-H Foundation Board selects the winners. She said the board meets every May to review applications from previous and current 4-H members and choose who receives a scholarship. Haver explained what the judges look for.

Haver said the quality of the application determines the total scholarship awarded, which can be any amount up to $1,000. She said the 4-H Foundation Board members have their own individual methods of deciding the amount of money each student will receive.

Every student received the maximum $1,000 scholarship this year. Haver said the money must be used to continue the student’s education.

Haver said high school and secondary student scholarships aren’t the only financial benefits 4-H members receive. She said the organization offers funding for trips, camps, and other events to current members.

Haver said two Carbon County 4-H members are representing Wyoming in the National Shoot. Held in Nebraska, the annual event showcases the archery and firearm shooting skills of our country’s youth. Haver said the two members attending the shooting competition did not require financial assistance from 4-H.
