The Continental Divide Trail is celebrating its 42nd Anniversary. Considered one of the greatest long distance trails in the world, the CDT stretches more than 3,000 miles and crosses elevations to 14,000 feet above sea level. It was designated a trail 42 years ago today in 1978.

Not only is today the anniversary of the Continental Divide Trail, as well as the anniversary of the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald on this date in 1975 and memorialized in song by Gordon Lightfoot, today is also the anniversary of the birth of the U.S. Marine Corps.

November 10th stands as the official birthday of the Marine Corps. The Marines were first established on this day in 1775 by the Second Continental Congress.
