Calling, all pit bosses, grill masters and bakers. You’re invited to a “shootout” at the Carbon County Fair. No guns or live ammo is involved, just good old-fashioned home cooking. It’s essentially a new twist on traditional cook-offs. Julie Webb at the fairgrounds in Rawlins said the shootouts are a new feature this year.

So “Shootouts” are essentially cooking competitions with a cool, Western flavored name. Webb said food categories will be featured in a series of shootouts that begin next Tuesday.

Webb said the grill masters should show up at high noon with their briskets, ribs, steaks and whatever your barbecue specialty happens to be in a crock pot or aluminum pan. Judging for the barbecue is at 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Then stand by for the home brewers.

The shootouts are Tuesday through Thursday next week. The Carbon County Fair starts Saturday morning. Find out more and get the whole schedule at www.carboncountyfairgrounds.com.
