Carbon County Emergency Management will continue hosting emergency preparedness meetings at senior centers.

Following last winter’s high snowfall and road closures, the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security provided counties across the state with five-gallon buckets containing emergency supplies. Carbon County Emergency Manager Lenny Layman will give a short presentation about disaster preparations when the buckets are distributed to each senior center in the county.

The Baggs and Dixon senior centers were the first to receive the emergency supply buckets and hear Layman’s presentation. Speaking to the Board of Carbon County Commissioners on November 21st, Layman said the meetings were a learning experience for both the seniors of Carbon County and himself. The emergency manager said many participants are signing up for the county-wide emergency response system, Alert Sense.

Alert Sense is a free program that provides residents with emergency alerts based on their location. Layman said people signed up with Alert Sense will be the first to receive official government messages about any potential disasters.

During the November 21st board meeting, Layman said he will visit the remaining six senior centers in the coming weeks.

Layman said the meetings typically last around 30 minutes. The county emergency manager encouraged every Carbon County resident to sign up for the Alert Sense service. A link to create an account can be found at this address: https://public.alertsense.com/SignUp/?regionid=1587
