In Rawlins, the November Community Builders Award went to Abby Perry for her efforts to keep the city green and growing. During the November 21st Rawlins city council meeting, volunteer committee member Jason Sehon announced the recipient of the November Rawlins Community Builder Award. Sehon said University of Wyoming Ag and Natural Resources Extension Educator Abby Perry was selected to receive this month’s award.

Sehon said Perry teaches residents about the importance of choosing region appropriate plants for their properties. The Rawlins Volunteer Committee member also said Perry works to make the city an attractive place to live.

Sehon said Perry was instrumental in the project to replace the bushes and flowers outside of city hall with native low-water deer-resistant plants. Sehon said Perry took the opportunity to educate people about the types of landscaping they should use in their planting projects.

Sehon said Perry also created a plan to replace the landscaping outside of the Rawlins Family Recreation Center with similar plants.

The Rawlins Volunteer Committee member said Perry is focused on making the city a great place to raise a family. Sehon said Perry recommends planting new trees as often as possible.

Sehon said Perry also serves on the city’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. Sehon explained some of the programs that Perry has developed.

Sehon said Perry assisted in the city’s 2023 Arbor Day celebration. The Rawlins Volunteer Committee member said the city’s efforts were recognized by state officials.

Mayor Terry Weickum thanked Perry for her efforts. Perry was presented with a plaque and a $100 check. Perry donated her award money to the Rawlins Senior Center.
