Firefighters responded to a blaze at the Saratoga shooting range Saturday evening. Around 6 p.m. on Saturday, several engines responded to a fire at the Saratoga Gun Club’s shooting range on Ryan Park Road. Thick black smoke could be seen for miles.

Police and fire personnel at the scene had no comment.

The shooting range uses old tires to reinforce the far wall. Burning tires produced a tell-tale column of black smoke. Saratoga Fire Chief Pat Walliser said Monday the cause of the blaze remains unknown.

A reliable source tells Bigfoot 99 the fire may have started when a tracer round landed in the brush around the tires. Dry and windy conditions may have helped trigger the blaze. People at the shooting range agree that a tracer or incendiary round may be the culprit.

Walliser was relieved the fire didn’t cause any major damage.

Carbon County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the cause of the blaze.
