In Cheyenne, Governor Mark Gordon appointed Deputy State Defender Patricia Bennett on Friday to be State Public Defender. The appointment of Bennett fills the vacancy left by Brandon Booth who has served in the position since September of 2024.
Bennett is an experienced trial and appellate attorney, appearing in almost every jurisdiction in Wyoming. Her experience has led her to appear many times before the Wyoming Supreme Court as an appellate advocate. Bennett has primarily represented indigent clients through her role as Deputy at the Office of the Public Defender.
Her legal career includes experience as a Judge Advocate in the Wyoming Army National Guard and as a Hospital Corpsman in the U.S. Navy.
Bennett has a history of advocating for state residents who need affordable legal advice. Her specialties include criminal defense, family law, apparels and military law.
Governor Mark Gordon praised Bennett in Friday’s official announcement. “Patricia’s extensive experience in both trial and appellate law, combined with her deep understanding of the Wyoming legal system, makes her an exceptional choice for this role,” Governor Gordon said.
The incoming State Public Defender said that she was honored by the Governor’s trust.
Bennett’s appointment is effective April 1, 2026.
