The Wyoming Frontier Prison in Rawlins is holding its big Halloween fundraising event. Haunted tours of the prison will also be offered this month.

Every year, the Wyoming Frontier Prison holds a masquerade ball to raise money for the museum. Historic Site Director Tina Hill said the masquerade ball, which is this Saturday, October 21st, is open to anyone over the age of 21.

Hill said Saturday’s masquerade ball will also feature a 50/50 raffle, costume contest, and live music from Stillhouse Blues. The historic site director said tickets can be purchased through the event’s Facebook page or at the door.

Along with the masquerade ball, Hill said the Frontier Prison is also hosting its annual haunted Halloween night tours. The historic site director said attendees must reserve a time and date through the Old Pen website or via Facebook.

Hill said the theme of this year’s Halloween tour is The Demon’s Within Present: Dreaded Things Throughout the Decades. The historic site director said she has compiled a list of people’s childhood horrors. Hill said tour participants will journey through the most feared events of the past 70 years.

Hill wasn’t willing to disclose any more details about the Halloween tour. She said you’ll have to visit the Wyoming Frontier Prison to experience the Dreaded Things Throughout the Decades.

Hill said she is looking for volunteers to help with the Halloween haunted tours. The historic site director said she recently announced that the Frontier Prison will donate to high school organizations if members volunteer. Hill said her pool of regular volunteers are finding it hard to make the time to help.

Hill said all volunteers must be 14 or older. She said minors will require written permission from their parents since the tours can last until 1:00 am.

Hill said she needs volunteers to not only work the Halloween tours, but to also help set up and tear down the event. The historic site director said volunteers will have their own afterparty with food and games.

For those that don’t know, Sardines is a game similar to Hide and Seek, but when a seeking team finds a hiding team, they must also hide in the same place. Hill said hiding spots can get quite crowded, hence the name of the game.

Hill said Halloween is the biggest fundraising time of the year for the Wyoming Frontier Prison. The historic site director said she really needs more volunteers to help her put on the horror-themed events.

The Wyoming Frontier Prison’s masquerade ball fundraiser is this Saturday, October 21st. Tickets are $40 per person and can be purchased through Facebook or at the door.

The Demon’s Within Present: Dreaded Things Throughout the Decades Halloween tours are October 27th, 28th, and 31st from 7:00 pm to midnight. Tickets must be purchased through the event’s Facebook page or from wyomingfrontierprison.org. Tickets are $20 per person.
