Hanna residents will be able to ice-skate this winter thanks to the Boys and Girls Club of Carbon County.

In 2019, Rawlins Downtown Development Authority Mainstreet, thanks to a generous donation from HF Sinclair, purchased a synthetic ice rink from Cheyenne. Instead of frozen water, a synthetic ice rink uses high-density plastic panels. Last year, the Rawlins DDA board decided to stop using the ice-skating rink. The original donor, HF Sinclair, suggested giving the rink away.

Boys and Girls Club of Carbon County Chief Professional Officer Theresa Pacheco said she and former Hanna Recreation Director Mike Armstrong worked together to get Rawlins to donate the synthetic ice-skating rink.

Pacheco said the donated ice rink still needs to be assembled at the Hanna Recreation Center. The Boys and Girls Club CPO said the ice-skating rink will provide another winter activity for Hanna residents.

Pacheco said the ice-skating rink will be available to everyone, not just Boys and Girls Club members. Pacheco said ice skates were also included with the donation.

An ice-skating rink isn’t the only thing the Boys and Girls Club of Carbon County has going on this winter. Pacheco said her organization is holding its annual fundraiser, called the Blue Jean Ball. Pacheco said the casual-dress event will have dancing, food, and a silent auction.

Pacheco said money raised during the Blue Jean Ball will be used to support both the Rawlins and Hanna branches of the Boys and Girls Club.

The Blue Jean Ball is November 11th at the Jeffery Memorial Community Center in Rawlins. Doors open at 5:00 pm. Admission is $10 per person.

Bigfoot99 will have more information about the Hanna ice-skating rink as it becomes available.
