The Medicine Bow Health Clinic has received a grant to purchase an ultrasound machine.

On Friday afternoon, Kay Embree and the other members of the Medicine Bow Rural Health Care District board announced that the clinic was awarded a $19,017 grant from the Leone M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.

Speaking at the gathering, Embree said the philanthropic organization gave the Medicine Bow clinic over $19,000 through the Wyoming Ultrasound Revitalization Project.

Founded in 2008, the Leone M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust uses its $8 billion endowment to create stronger, healthier futures for individuals and communities in the United States.

Using $17,017 of the grant, the Medicine Bow Health Clinic has ordered an Acclarix AX3 Diagnostic Ultrasound machine, several probes, a printer, and a cart. Embree said the clinic has until December to take delivery of the machine.

After announcing the grant, the Medicine Bow Rural Health Care District unveiled a new outdoor sign for the clinic. Created by local rancher Tim Heward, the large, round, metal sign features a white cross in the center with a bow and arrow overlaid on top of the cross. The words Medicine Bow Health Center are cut out around the edge of the sign.

Embree said the Hewards, and other Medicine Bow families, have worked to make the clinic a success since its inception 41 years ago.

Embree said the Medicine Bow Health Clinic is funded through local tax payments. She thanked the Board of Carbon County Commissioners for continuing to set money aside to keep the clinic open.

Embree also thanked the other members of the Medicine Bow Rural Health Care District board for working so hard to ensure that residents continue to have access to health care in town. The more services that can be provided by the clinic, the less residents will need to brave the potentially dangerous roads.

The Medicine Bow Heath Clinic should receive its new ultrasound machine by the end of this year.
