Memorial Hospital of Carbon County is offering scholarships for students entering the medical field.

During the July 7th Board of Carbon County Commissioners meeting, Memorial Hospital Chief Operating Officer Stephanie Hinkle announced that the medical center has restarted its scholarship program. Hinkle said grants are now available to students pursuing a range of healthcare careers, not just nursing.

Hinkle said Memorial Hospital is offering two $5,000 scholarships to students pursuing careers in the healthcare industry. In return, the recipients must work at the hospital for at least two years.

Hinkle said scholarship recipients must sign a legally binding agreement called a promissory note stating they agree to work at Memorial Hospital for two years. However, she said most employees typically choose to stay at the Rawlins medical center for longer.

The 2026 Memorial Hospital of Carbon County Healthcare Professionals Degree Scholarship application period is open now and closes on August 15th. Qualifying candidates must be pursuing an education that will result in a degree and have a GPA of 2.5 or above. Certifications are not eligible. The award must be repaid if the student leaves school before completing the semester or fails to comply with the other terms of the scholarship.

Memorial Hospital also offers the Tyeler Harris Memorial Scholarship. Named after EMT Tyeler Harris, who was killed in December 2022 while responding to calls on Interstate 80, the scholarship gives $500 to students enrolled in an Emergency Medical Technician program.

In addition, the Memorial Hospital of Carbon County Foundation Board, which is separate from the facility’s Board of Trustees, offers four $500 scholarships to graduates of Carbon County School Districts One and Two who are seeking careers in healthcare. However, the hospital’s website has not updated the scholarship application page since 2024.

Hinkle said the Healthcare Professionals Degree Scholarship is a way for Memorial Hospital to support students entering the healthcare industry and meet the Rawlins medical center’s staffing needs.
