The Rawlins Shooting Complex is hosting an NRA sanctioned pistol tournament later this month.
On the weekend of February 22nd and 23rd, the Rawlins Family Recreation Center’s indoor shooting complex is holding the 33rd Annual Silver Bullet Pistol Tournament.
Rawlins Parks and Recreation Director Nikki Howell explained that participants will engage in a variety of shooting disciplines to earn National Rifle Association points.
Shooters will earn NRA points based on their performance in the tournament, with the points contributing to their overall classification and potential handicap in future NRA sanctioned competitions.
The Silver Bullet Pistol Tournament will feature four different shooting events. Los Alamitos, which involves shooting at multiple targets from various positions, with shooters aiming to complete the courses of fire within a set time limit. The next discipline is called the Practical Event. This event simulates real-world defensive shooting scenarios, requiring shooters to draw from holsters and navigate through a variety of obstacles. The third event is titled Combat and sees participants engage multiple targets from various positions, such as standing or prone. The event is designed to test the shooter’s ability to acquire targets, maintain accuracy, and quickly move through the stages. The tournament then ends with the Falling Plates round. This involves competitors shooting at a series of steel plates with the goal of knocking down as many plates as possible within a set time limit.
Parks and Rec Director Howell said last year’s Silver Bullet Pistol Tournament was postponed because the indoor range was undergoing a long overdue upgrade. Howell said she believes people will be pleased to see the event return.
The 2022 Silver Bullet Pistol Tournament attracted 37 competitors with 50 guns, some from as far away as Georgia. Participants are able to register multiple guns per event. However, this year’s tournament is limited to 40 guns in total.
Registration costs $80 for the first gun and $40 for the second, with a $30 fee for junior shooters. Howell said to contact the Rawlins Family Recreation Center for more information or to register for the event.
The registration fee also covers a catered dinner at the Best Western CottonTree Inn, located on the west side of the city. Parks and Rec Director Howell said the motel has been a longtime sponsor of the Silver Bullet Pistol Tournament.
Additionally, Pepsi-Cola, Wyoming Storage Solutions, and Discover Carbon County Wyoming are also sponsoring the event. Howell said that Pepsi sponsors many of the Rawlins Family Recreation Center’s events.
