The Platte Valley Arts Council is inviting everyone to its annual meeting and social event in Encampment.

Next Thursday, November 16th, at the Encampment Opera House, the Platte Valley Arts Council is holding a community event called Under the Big Top. PVAC Board Member Kelli Gannon said the free circus-themed event is a fun way for the arts council to give back to the public.

Gannon said last year’s community event was postponed due to the unveiling of six art pieces in Saratoga and Encampment. To make up for the lack of a meeting, Gannon said the arts council chose to add a theme to this year’s event.

Gannon said next Thursday’s Under the Big Top event will feature a variety of games for people to play. The arts council board member explained the types of activities that will be offered.

The arts council board member said tickets earned from the games can be redeemed for prizes. Gannon said the prizes were donated by board members and local businesses.

On top of the free carnival games and prizes, the Platte Valley Arts Council will also provide free snacks. Gannon said hot dogs, popcorn, and cotton candy will be available during next week’s event.

Gannon said the winner of the Platte Valley Arts Council’s 2023 Hay Bale Sculpture Contest will be announced. The winner is determined by how many likes their submission receives on the arts council’s Facebook page. As of the writing of this story, the Dirt Diggers Garden Club’s flowerpot sculpture, titled Welcome from Dirt Diggers, is in the lead with 146 likes.

The Platte Valley Arts Council’s Under the Big Top is next Thursday, November 16th, at the Encampment Opera House from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Admission, games, and snacks are free.
