In Rawlins, Sean Metcalf is out as city manager and Tom Sarvey will be the interim replacement beginning Wednesday.

After meeting in executive session for about 30 minutes Friday night, city council emerged and voted to accept Metcalf’s resignation. Councilwoman Linda Smith made the motion, with Debari Martinez offering the second.

The vote was five ayes and one nay without discussion. Councilman Darril Garner was the single “no” vote. Councilman Aarron Durst was absent.

Smith offered a second motion naming Sarvey as interim replacement. Councilman Chris Weisenburg seconded the motion.

The vote naming Sarvey the interim replacement was unanimous. Smith asked that Sarvey’s contract reflect the change. The councilwoman added that she had no objection to anything that occurred in the executive session, the details of which are unknown. Council moved quickly to adjourn.

Metcalf’s exit comes a little more than two years after he was hired. His resignation letter was submitted to the city on the same date that he accepted a similar position in Hastings, Nebraska, a city of 25,000 people. Sarvey has served as Rawlins city treasurer since May of this year.
