In Rawlins, new capital expenditures – and even pay raises for employees – have been on hold while an outside accounting firm completes the 2021 fiscal audit. The abrupt departure of the city’s previous finance director, Jodi McClaurkin, and the process of finding her replacement likely contributed to the delay. Tom Sarvey was hired in mid-May to replace McLurkin.

At Tuesday’s council meeting, Sarvey reported to the governing body that the FY21 audit should be complete by the end of the month.

Sarvey added that he’s halfway through the reconciliations for the 2022 audit, reassuring council that it will go much faster than the 2021 audit. The governing body welcomed the news.

City Manager Sean Metcalf reports that when the audit is finished staff will meet with the governing body to discuss capital needs and how they should be addressed. Metcalf said in a recent memo that it will be important to unfreeze some of the needed expenditures.
