The Rawlins Police Department is sponsoring a national crime prevention event. Next Tuesday, August 1st, Rawlins PD will host a police and community partnership event in the city. During the July 18th Rawlins city council meeting, Mayor Terry Weickum read a proclamation declaring August 1st as the 40th Annual National Night Out.

National Night Out was founded to enhance the relationship between the community and law enforcement. Mayor Weickum said the annual event is an effective way for residents to learn about the different organizations that help make Rawlins a safe place to live.

Rawlins Police Chief Mike Ward told the council that he has attended three National Night Out events since coming to the city. The chief said in the 40 years since the event began, it has contributed greatly to the bond between residents and the police. Chief Ward said the community has stepped up to make next Tuesday’s event a success.

Mayor Weickum said everyone should attend the event. He said it’s a good time with good food.

The 40th Annual Rawlins National Night Out is next Tuesday, August 1st, at Bolton Park, on the corner of Washington and East Davis Streets in Rawlins. The festivities will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
