Hanna will hold a public meeting to discuss the town’s recreation center.

It’s no secret that the Hanna Recreation Center costs the town a lot of money to operate. Bigfoot99 doesn’t have exact numbers, but back in March, we reported on rumors that Mayor Jon Ostling was considering closing the facility. At the time, Board of Carbon County Commissioners Chairwoman Sue Jones said Mayor Ostling told Bigfoot 99 that the fate of the pool and the recreation center is in the hands of the Hanna Town Council. The council is the only one to have the authority to shutter the recreation center on his own. Jones said rumors about the pool closing likely began when former rec center director Mike Armstrong left earlier in the year.

The recreation center may not be off the chopping block after all. Next Thursday, June 22nd, Mayor Ostling and the Hanna town council are inviting the public to discuss the future of the rec center. While details of the meeting aren’t known at this time, with increasing costs and dwindling attendance, it is safe to say the facility’s pool is likely to be a major topic of discussion.

The meeting starts at 6:30pm on Thursday, June 22nd, at the Hanna rec center, located at 8000 Highway 72.
