It’s going to be a good river year. That’s what locals have been saying for the last month other in casual conversations. The official forecasts of river flows this spring, which are based on statistical measurements, are making the same case. There will be plenty of water this spring.

The latest report from the NRCS puts the snowpack and water equivalency levels right on bubble – 100 to 105 percent of the 30-year median. Water year to date—the water year begins in October—is around 115 percent of median, according to report released yesterday by state hydrologist James Fahey. The report concludes that stream flows along the Upper North Platte River for April through July should be about 114 percent above the median.

Seminoe Reservoir inflows are forecasted to be 115% of median. In other words, the locals are right, irrigators and river runners are in for a good year.
